Why is Brain Donation Important?
We encourage participants in the BIOCARD study to agree to brain donation. There are several reasons why brain donation is important:

- Brain donation from people with symptoms of dementia is the only way to reach a definite diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other type of dementia, which provides valuable insight and closure for family members and friends
- Brain donation from people without symptoms of memory loss will help advance efforts to understand the factors that protect the brain from disease with advancing age and may provide insights into ways of delaying the onset of disease.
- Brain donation provides a gift of hope to future generations in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, as it provides valuable information that can be used to develop better treatments for patients
